Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe, effective, hands on form of therapy which focuses on the fascial system as a key structure for creating lasting changes in the body. Fascia is a fluid, 3D web like connective tissue that runs from the top of the head, to the tips of the toes, without interruption. It is dense and multi-layered, covering and penetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery, vein, and organ in the body (as a visual, think of the white pith in an orange). The therapist applies a gentle, sustained, pressure for a minimum of five minutes, into the fascia to release restrictions within your body which helps decrease pain and tension while increasing range of motion, blood and energy flow and overall health.
Healthy fascia is fluid and pliable. Trauma, inflammation, repetitive stress, scarring, poor posture and surgery can lead to a hardening and shortening of the fascia. These myofascial restrictions can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch, creating CRUSHING pressure on nerves, muscles, bones, blood vessels and organs. This can result in not only pain and range of motion restrictions, it can also have an adverse effect on the muscular, cellular, neurological, and metabolic systems. These restrictions do not appear on any standard diagnostic tests (x-rays, MRIs, CAT scans, electromyography), and can often be the undiscovered source for a myriad of problems in the body.
Human Clients
This form of MFR is extremely gentle and can be performed on people of all ages, from Newborns to Centennials. MFR is a whole body approach that does not use traditional protocols for a “one size fits all” form of treatment. It recognizes that each patient is a a unique individual with their own patterns and fascial restrictions. Each person is assessed and treated with a customized plan of care, understanding that the root cause of a symptom will not be the same in everyone.
Horse Clients
Fascial restrictions can alter a horse’s structural alignment which may lead to a loss of power, decreased flexibility, and difficulties maintaining gait. Lameness, pain, behavior changes, and fatigue are often the result of restrictions in the fascial system. MFR can treat and help with preventing all these issues, while regular maintenance treatments can help your horse stay healthier and recover from injury faster.
